How to choose a coffee machine. Semi-automatic coffee machines
When you enjoy a delicious, aromatic cup of coffee, you don’t really ask how it’s done, where the beans came from or how they were ground. You simply enjoy… And only once you decide to prepare coffee of your own, you realize that it’s not that simple. One of the main parts of the coffee making process is the coffee machine. And you should know a bit more about it, in order to get the best cup of coffee from the machine of your choice.
So this time let’s quickly go over what types of machine there are. Coffee machines, same as any other appliance, can be divided into:
- Semi-automatic coffee machines;
- Automatic coffee machines;
- “Senseo” coffee machines that use coffee pads; and
- Capsule coffee machines.
The most common machines are fully and semi automatic ones. And you can probably tell why. It’s really easy to prepare coffee using such machines and they also have wide options for any taste and aroma preferences. Why? Because you can choose how coarse your coffee beans will be ground, you can set the water temperature or even the steam pressure.
If you don’t have your own coffee machine yet, you can often notice them in cafes, bars, restaurants and even observe the coffee making process. It’s very likely that you will find their professional, half-automatic coffee machines, which are designed for large quantities and commercial use. Meanwhile, the semi-automatic machines for home are one of the most compact coffee machines. It’s because these machines don’t have the big tanks for grounds or coffee grinding mechanisms. There are only a few elements that should be considered: the size of the water tank, coffee scoop, milk frother and the design of the machine. It’s pretty basic, you choose the tank size, decide if you’d like two cups to be prepared at once and fit the machine into your cosy kitchen.
I forgot to mention the main difference, which highlights semi-automatic coffee machines. With this machine you can become a barista of your own and enjoy the whole coffee making process. You can use ground coffee or grind the beans as you like them, you can change the amount of coffee and water, and some machines will even allow you to set the steam pressure. Of course, I can’t forget all the white coffee lovers, who will be able to make coffee foam with the help of a milk frother. There’s always an exception, though; some machines have an automatic milk frother, which will make the most perfect milky foam for you. You just need a tank for milk.
I think that’s enough for now. You sure do know how to choose a semi-automatic coffee machine, so next time I will let you know more about the fully automatic ones. And till then—ENJOY YOUR COFFEE!
